Q: What is not a pop album?

Progress reports: The Pugs album Real Nights is almost done. Ky only has a couple more songs to do and then it’s mostly just down to mixing! I don’t know what is happening as far as an actual CD release, but it will most likely be available online first in any case.

I’ve also started working on an ambient album, in the style of dudes like Brian Eno and Steve Roach. I’ve always liked that stuff, and it’s so fun to make because it’s the exact opposite of a pop album—no melody, no real rhythm, completely impressionistic. I’ve never really made a serious attempt at making anything to actually release though, so I’m doing LOTS of demos and experiments to see what works and what doesn’t. That album won’t take long to make though. I sense it’ll be out before summer.

Now for the fun stuff:

“Wharfless” in its entirety, to make searching for and hearing the song easier than having to listen to samples on online stores:

And finally, “Space Elevator” live from last week’s solo show at the White Eagle. Video taken by Ken Scott Euker!

Songs are like gummi bears.

Sorry dudes for the infrequent updates the past couple months. There really hasn’t been much in the way of breaking hard news though. I’ve just been writing and demoing a hell of a lot. I want to make sure that the next album is the best one yet, so I’m writing a huge gaggle of songs and using the best of the best. So it might be a while before the next album comes out… like later on this year. However, I have been thinking of releasing an EP in the meantime, just because it doesn’t feel right going so long between albums, and I have a handful of good songs to use for one. The History Of Fishes only came out six months ago, but I already feel like I’m taking too long. But it’s for good reason — the next album is gonna be super.

And a vigorous reminder: Wharfless, The Albatross Project, The History Of Fishes and A Bunch of Songs are all available on iTunes now.
