Alright, so it’s been almost five months since I updated. Ooooops. In the meantime, I played lead guitar in a production of Jesus Christ Superstar (with fellow Drum Pug Ky Fifer starring as Judas), me and my Pugs played a couple shows and I’ve been writing and recording all sorts of terrible terrible music (only if you are Big Foot or The Yeti that is). Also, I have made Real Nights into a real boy so actual physical CDs will be available soon.
I have a few other projects in the works that I probably shouldn’t mention until they actually become worth mentioning. But yeah things, they happen.
Here are a few videos that can more or less sum up the past few months:
The Alex Arrowsmith and His Pugs album Real Nights is almost done, so I think the time is also ripe now for a SNEEK PREEVIEW. It’s called “Window Made Of Diamonds.” Download here or listen here:

And “Window Made Of Diamonds” live from the Banana Stand last summer:
Progress reports: The Pugs album Real Nights is almost done. Ky only has a couple more songs to do and then it’s mostly just down to mixing! I don’t know what is happening as far as an actual CD release, but it will most likely be available online first in any case.
I’ve also started working on an ambient album, in the style of dudes like Brian Eno and Steve Roach. I’ve always liked that stuff, and it’s so fun to make because it’s the exact opposite of a pop album—no melody, no real rhythm, completely impressionistic. I’ve never really made a serious attempt at making anything to actually release though, so I’m doing LOTS of demos and experiments to see what works and what doesn’t. That album won’t take long to make though. I sense it’ll be out before summer.
Now for the fun stuff:
A clip from the UK TV show Skins featuring “Wharfless“:
“Wharfless” in its entirety, to make searching for and hearing the song easier than having to listen to samples on online stores:
And finally, “Space Elevator” live from last week’s solo show at the White Eagle. Video taken by Ken Scott Euker!
Okay, it’s been a while. But in the world of Alex Arrowsmith and His Pugs, there really hasn’t been much going on besides a few shows and learning new songs for the next album. I’ve also been super busy with The Shaky Hands. In fact, we just played a heroic show at Burgerville last night. And since the last time I updated, we’ve mostly finished the next Shaky Hands album.
But! Having said that, here is some actual content. Videos from the Pugs set at the Banana Stand on June 26:
Let’s start at the beginning. For those of you who don’t know, I’m a huge fan of the TV show Lost. The guys from Tiger House can attest to this, when I refused to practice or play shows on the days of the premiere and finale of the recent season. Earlier this month, ABC started a contest where Lost fans could write and record a mock theme song for Lost and then the winner would be announced at Comic-Con (which was last weekend) and they’d get their song played and everything. It’s not a life-changingly huge thing, but it’s good exposure for the winner. So I entered. I wrote a short instrumental that I thought captured the feel of Lost pretty well, and I actually ended up very happy with the end product, which I didn’t expect to be.
Well, I didn’t win. And in a bizarre turning of the tables, the winning theme song was a goofy butt-rock song with lyrics, and mine was this serious attempt at a theme song. Usually it would be the other way around; I’d do the goofy thing and then the serious thing would win. But that is cool for the guys who made the winning song, they got thousands of people visiting their Myspace as a result! But then Alyssa suggested that I do a quick edit of my theme song to a Lost trailer and post it on YouTube in time to catch some of the Comic-Con frenzy. So I did! Watch:
It’s actually been getting lots of views, which is awesome. DarkUFO (one of the big Lost fan sites) posting about it sure doesn’t hurt either! So hey, thanks fellow Lost geeks!
